Where More CBD Oil is Being Sold Since You Can't Buy in Indiana

Crossing the Ohio River to Kentucky is an easy way to get it. It's not illegal there.

OWENSBOROUGH, Ky.--CBD oil can be legally sold in Kentucky, but not in Indiana. This is leading some Hoosiers to hit the road and head south.

TV station WFIE in Evansville, reports stores that sell it in Kentucky have had more Hoosiers coming across the Ohio River to buy CBD oil, after a recent attorney general's opinion that selling it in Indiana is illegal.

The owners of Gene's Health Food's say they have Hoosier customers who buy CBD pills and oils. The treatments can  help some people who have seizures, among other ailments.

"It just actually helps to repair the body from all the damage that it comes across on a daily basis," Co-owner Karissa Costello told the TV station. "I just think it's misinformation and confusion, and it will come to the light that CBD is good for you and that CBD is safe for you."

Under Indiana law, CBD refers to the extract that comes from hemp plants and contains trace amounts -- or less than .3 percent -- of THC, the psychoactive element that gives marijuana smokers a high. CBD oil that comes from plants with higher levels of THC is considered "medical marijuana" and is illegal in Indiana.

The Indiana General Assembly is expected to work on a new law that would allow it to be sold in the state. You must be on the State Health Dept. registry to possess it.

Attorney General Curtis Hill issued an opinion earlier this year that stores cannot sell the oil, and that stores that do sell it in Indian are in violation of the law.

Gov. Eric Holcomb then said stores would be educated for two months if the oil was found on their shelves. They will have to get rid of it.  RELATED ARTICLE
