Whitestown Man Buried In Wrong Cemetery Plot For 12 Years

The cemetery eventually found Charles Bovenschen’s casket buried in the wrong plot in an unmarked grave several days later and provided a new casket for him to be reburied next to his wife.

WHITESTOWN, Ind. – A Whitestown man who was buried in the wrong grave for more than a decade is now in his proper resting place.

When Mary Bovenschen died in February and was buried in her plot at the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, her family found out that her husband Charles was not buried next to her, even though he had died in 2006.

The cemetery eventually found Charles Bovenschen’s casket buried in the wrong plot in an unmarked grave several days later and provided a new casket for him to be reburied.

Another ceremony was held for family and friends Saturday to lay Charles Bovenschen to rest.

"It's a day of closure. It's a day that we can be all at peace knowing my parents are together," says Sandi Vasel, the daughter of Charles and Mary Bovenschen.

The burial mistake may have been due to problems with the previous cemetery operator according to RTV6.
