Winter Heating Assistance Program Goes Digital

Online applications available for first time for help for low-income families

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Applications begin Wednesday for an annual program to help you pay your winter heating bill -- but starting next week, you can apply online for the first time.

The state doesn't run the energy assistance program -- it's handled through 21 local agencies around the state. The state will launch a web application next Thursday at

You're eligible if your annual income is below 150% of the poverty line. For a family of four, that's $36,900. How much you receive depends on how many families sign up -- last year, 101,000 Hoosier families received an average of $510.
