Woman Dies in Fire on South Side of Indy

The woman who died was 54 years old.

INDIANAPOLIS--A fire has killed a 54-year-old woman on the south side of Indianapolis. 

Firefighters were called to Amesbury Court near Southport and Bluff Roads around 1:30 am Wednesday. 

That woman was found dead in the front room of the home. She was using an oxygen tank. Investigators are trying to figure out if she was smoking, which may have caused the fire. 

An official cause of the fire has not been released. 

Another woman was in the home at the time of the fire and she escaped without injury.   

The damage of the fire is estimated at $75,000.
