Woman Killed In House Fire On The East Side

The cause of the fire is unknown.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman killed in a house fire on the east side of Indianapolis this morning.

Firefighters were called at around 4:15 a.m. to Rothe Lane where they found three homes on fire near 30th and Cumberland Road. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to get the flames under control.

IFD said no one was in two of the three houses that were on fire. However, in the third home, firefighters say they found the body of 59-year-old Marsha Dean Karnafel, who lived there.

Crews believe the fire started in the middle home, where Karnafel and her husband lived.  High winds were likely what caused the flames to spread.
