NEW YORK — Celebrity chef Rachael Ray is facing a five-million dollar lawsuit over a claim her dog food contains a chemical weed killer.

The New York man who’s leading the suit says the labeling on Rachael Ray Nutrish dog food is false, deceptive, and misleading.

The packaging touts natural food for dogs and no artificial flavors or artificial preservatives. The lawsuit argues that testing by an independent lab found the dog food contains glyphosate, the chemical herbicide used in brands like Roundup.

The J.M. Smucker Company, which makes the dog food, says it’s reviewing details of the claim but stands behind the quality of its products, ingredients, and sourcing, and plans to “aggressively fight” the claims made in the lawsuit.
