Amtrak Train Derails and Kills At Least 3 People in Washington
DUPONT, WA -- An Amtrak train was going more than 80 miles an hour moments before derailing south of Seattle in a crash that killed at least three people.
Amtrak and state transportation officials say the train was traveling at 81 miles an hour just before it left the tracks at a curve where the recommended speed is 30 miles an hour. Cars plunged off the track and onto at least five vehicles on the busy Interstate 5 freeway between Olympia and Tacoma.
Investigators are expected to focus on the train's speed and the posted speed limit as they try to learn what caused the crash yesterday morning.
