Authorities Hoping Marilou Danley Can Shed Light on Las Vegas Gunman's Motives
LAS VEGAS, Nev-The life of Marilou Danley just got a lot more interesting. She is the girlfriend of the Las Vegas gunman, Stephen Paddock, who shot himself when police were about to take him into custody after he killed nearly 60 people in the deadliest shooting in U.S. history. Danley was in the Philippines at the time of the shooting. She arrived at the airport in Los Angeles Tuesday night and was immediately greeted by FBI agents, according to a law enforcement official.
Danley's immigration documents show she first arrived in the Philippines September 15th. Then she left on September 22nd and returned 3 days later on a flight from Hong Kong while using an Australian passport. Danley's Australia-based sisters say Paddock sent Danley away so she wouldn't interfere with his plans.
Australia's Channel 7 TV interviewed the sisters and they maintain that Danley could not have known his ideas. One of the sisters says Danley knew he had guns, but didn't think he had as many as he had. He's reported to have had at least 30.
The Associated Press discovered that Paddock sent $100,000 to the Philippines in the days before the shooting. Investigators are still trying to trace that money.
Danley was initially cleared in the investigation, but is now considered a "person of interest" in the case as she is questioned by law enforcement officials.
