FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe Resigns

Various sources described McCabe's departure as a mutual decision, while others said it was the result of pressure to step down as the Russia probe progresses

WASHINGTON, D.C. --  Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe is reportedly on the way out.

McCabe was acting director after President Trump fired FBI chief James Comey last year.  McCabe is stepping down as deputy director immediately but will remain on the FBI payroll until mid-March when he can retire with full benefits.

A report said FBI Director Chris Wray threatened to resign recently after being pushed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire McCabe. The White House has disputed that story.

After McCabe became acting director, President Trump reportedly asked him to reveal who he voted for the 2016 presidential election.  McCabe is reported to have responded that he did not vote.

Various sources described McCabe's departure as a mutual decision, while others said it was the result of pressure to step down. One source briefed on the matter said McCabe announced his decision to senior executives and portrayed it as his choice.

The source disputed the characterization that McCabe was removed.
