MINNEAPOLIS — A fired Minnesota cop is being charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced the charges against Derek Chauvin this afternoon, noting how quickly the case moved.

Chauvin is the officer who was filmed with his knee on the neck of George Floyd on Memorial Day. Floyd died a short time later.

Police responded to a convenience store in the area after someone called 911 claiming a person believed to be Floyd used a counterfeit bill and appeared drunk.
