Jeffrey Epstein Commits Suicide
MANHATTAN, New York -- Wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein has committed suicide. He was found dead in his cell Saturday morning at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan at around 7:30 a.m.
The New York Times says Epstein, who was charged last month with sex trafficking of girls as young as 14, hanged himself.
CNBC reports he was transported to New York Downtown hospital, and he was in cardiac arrest when they arrived.
He had been placed on suicide watch after he was found barely conscious on the floor of his cell on July 23, with marks around his neck.
Epstein was arrested in early July on charges of child sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit child sex trafficking, charges to which he pleaded not guilty. He was being held in jail without bail.
