NFL Drops Papa John's As Pizza Sponsor; Picks Up Pizza Hut

Yum! Brands' Pizza Hut is the new official sponsor. Pizza Hut will work closely with the league on local and exclusive deals with teams.

NEW YORK -- The NFL has a new pizza sponsor.

Yum! Brands' Pizza Hut is the new official sponsor, the joint announcement coming just a day after Papa John's ended its sponsorship with the league.  Pizza Hut will work closely with the league on local and exclusive deals with teams.

The Plano, Texas-based pizza chain is the largest in the U.S. and will also be able to collectively use all 32 team marks.  The chain's marketing campaign will begin with the 2018 NFL Draft at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Papa John's was the pizza sponsor for the NFL for several years, but in light recent comments from CEO John Schnatter about players kneeling during the national anthem. Schnatter is a native of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Papa John's is not out of football all together though. The Louisville-based pizza chain still has existing sponsorship deals with 22 of the NFL's 32 teams, including the Indianapolis Colts.
