WASHINGTON —  President Trump is calling this the “most important election” in U.S. history.

Trump formally accepted his party’s presidential nomination during the Republican National Convention and repeatedly slammed Democrats.  He called Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden “weak” and a “Trojan horse for socialism.”

Trump said the “radical left” will defund police departments and said the U.S. must never allow “mob rule.”  Trump again defended his administration’s response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and vowed to “crush” the virus.

Trump blamed China for the pandemic and said Biden’s plan is not a solution to the virus, but rather a surrender.

The coronavirus outbreak has claimed more than 180-thousand lives in the U.S.  More than five-point-eight million Americans have been infected with the virus.  Trump also predicted that a safe and effective vaccine will be developed this year.

“We are meeting this challenge. We are delivering lifesaving therapies and will produce a vaccine before the end of the year, or maybe even sooner,” he said. “We will defeat the virus, end the pandemic, and emerge stronger than ever before.”

He delivered his acceptance speech from the South Lawn of the White House.  Democrats accused Trump of using the White House as a prop for his re-election campaign.
