FORT DRUM, NY–President Trump deserves a lot of credit for building up the military over his four years, said Vice President and former Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Speaking at Fort Drum in New York Sunday, Pence said the administration received a “hollowed-out military” because of “devastating budget cuts” under Barack Obama.

“Our troops hadn’t seen a significant pay raise in nearly a decade. There were reports that readiness was being impacted with a lack of equipment and supplies,” said Pence.

Pence praised the performance of the Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division for their devotion since the 9/11 attacks.

“Since 9/11, the 10th Mountain has been the most deployed division of the U.S. Army with thousands deployed every day. The 10th Mountain brigades have served a combined 46 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pence said he is proud that not one American combat casualty has happened in Afghanistan since February of last year.

“I’m here to deliver a very simple message. Thank you for your service,” said Pence.

Brigadier General Brett Funck of Fort Drum, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, and Second Lady Karen Pence also spoke at the event.
