Al Franken Resigning "In The Coming Weeks" From The U.S. Senate Following Sexual Misconduct Claims

Senator Franken made his announcement Thursday morning from the floor of the U.S. Senate and did not give a specific timetable for his departure.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Senator Al Franken (D-MN) has announced his resignation from the U.S. Senate "in the coming weeks" following claims of sexual misconduct.

Senator Franken made his announcement Thursday morning from the floor of the U.S. Senate and did not give a specific timetable for his departure.

During his speech, Franken said some of the claims of sexual harassment against him are untrue. Franken defended his record in the Senate and said he has tried to be "a champion of women".

More than 30 of Franken's Democratic colleagues urged him to resign, including Indiana's Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly.
