DragonSpeed Will Join IndyCar Next Season Running A Partial Schedule

DragonSpeed, which has seen most of its success in sports cars, will run in five IndyCar events in the 2019 season.

INDIANAPOLIS -- IndyCar will have a new team competing in the 2019 season.

DragonSpeed, which was found in 2007 by Elton Julian, will compete in five races next season, according to IndyCar, including the 103rd Indianapolis 500.

“INDYCAR is enjoying a major upswing thanks to the quality of the racing produced by the current regulations,” said Julian, an American born in the Canary Islands. “With so much interest from new entrants, we’re also grateful for INDYCAR’s support of our bid to join the series and to Chevy for making room for us in their engine program.”

Julian said Ben Hanley will pilot the team's only car, which will run in races at Indianapolis, the Streets of St. Petersburg, Barber Motorsports Park, Road America, and Mid-Ohio.

Before it's expansion into IndyCar DragonSpeed had competed solely in sports car series around the word, which include wins in the 2015 Pirelli World Challeneg GTA and 2017 European Le Mans Series LMP2 title.
