Hoosiers Quiet Naysayers In Win Over #17 Florida State

Indiana defeated the Seminoles 80-64 in third straight win against a ranked opponent at home.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- In their first true test of the season the unranked Indiana Hoosiers defeated #17 Florida State last night at Assembly Hall in Bloomington 80-64.

The game was a part of the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. It's Indiana's third straight win against a ranked opponent inside Assembly Hall. The hero of the game was senior guard Devonte Green who had 30 points coming off the bench for the Hoosiers.

Trace-Jackson Davis added 15 points and Justin Smith had 14 points as starters. Head Coach Archie Miller was impressed with the play of Green and the rest of his team for that matter, even when the game was getting close, off a few mistakes in the second half.

"Devonte is at his best when he's scoring," Miller said. "He was the best player on the floor tonight. He dominated the game in a lot of different ways. But there are those times where he has to let go of the ball. But then sometimes it's feast or famine. He's got to feast."

Miller also gave accolades to his team's ability to get to the foul stripe where they hit 23-of-38 foul shots.

Heading into the game there had been a lot of criticism of the Hoosiers' strength of schedule with their game against Florida State being their first opponent from a power conference now eight games into the regular season. Many called it "the first big game" of the season.

Miller looks at it differently since this year's team is made up of so many new faces and talents.

"I think that's the thing, this wasn't the first big game," he said. "For a lot of these guys the first game was the big game. Every game we've played to this date has been a big game. I think they are all learning, all trying to do well. I think they are all searching for their niche with this team."

The Hoosiers remain undefeated as they open Big Ten Conference play this Saturday at Wisconsin. The Hoosiers have not won in Madison since 1998.
