How 'Bout Them Aces! Evansville Knocks Off Top-Ranked Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Evansville Purple Aces aren't waiting for March to stir the pot of college basketball. The Aces walked into Rupp Arena in Lexington last night and stunned the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats 67-64.
KJ Riley led the Purple Aces scoring effort with 18 points.
"We had confidence even before we came in here," Riley said. "Coach told us we could win, this was a winnable game. We believed it from the jump."
Sam Cunliffe added 17 off the bench in the win. Immanuel Quickley led UK with 16 points and nine boards. Evansville head coach Walter McCarty, who used to play for Kentucky in his college days, said it's an amazing feeling to beat Kentucky.
"This is at the top," McCarty said. "To be able to play against the number one team in the country and to able to perform the way that we did. I don't think anything comes close to this other than winning a national championship."
Evansville is 2-0 with the win while Kentucky falls to 2-1 on the season.
