Indiana Pacers Draft Goga Bitadze With First Round Pick

The team also drafted Jarrell Brantley with the 50th overall pick who will head to Utah in trade

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Indiana Pacers looked overseas for their next addition to the team.

With the 18th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft the Pacers took Goga Bitadze who is a center out of the Republic of Georgia in Europe.

The 6-11, 245-pound big man most recently played with KK Buducnost in the Euroleague. He previously spent time in both the Serbian League as well as the Adriatic League, where he was named the 2018-19 Adriatic League MVP and Best Young Player.

Pacers head coach Nate McMillan said he was surprised that Bitadze was still on the board when it came time to make their pick.

"A lot of people in the league had his as a top ten, top twelve pick in the draft," MicMillan said. "When we saw that we had an opportunity to see him fall to us, everyone was just going crazy."

The Pacers will formally introduce Bitadze at a press conference at Banker's Life Fieldhouse this afternoon at 1:00.

The team also drafted Jarrell Brantley with the 50th overall pick. However, the pick was on behalf of the Utah Jazz, who traded an unconditional second round pick in next year's draft and cash to the Pacers in exchange for the draft rights Brantley.
