DARLINGTON, S.C. — The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series returned to live racing this past weekend to a huge national television audience.

Nielsen data reveals an average of 6.3 million Americans watched the Real Heroes 400 on FOX on Sunday, numbers that rival those of the sport’s most cherished race: the Daytona 500. Viewership peaked in the race’s final quarter-hour with 6.81 million people watching.

The FOX Network said it was the most-watched NASCAR race other than the Daytona 500 since 2017. They also said the average person watching the race watched it for an average of 113 minutes.

The race also beat out the final two episodes of “The Last Dance.” The Nielsen data also showed the critically-acclaimed ESPN-Netflix documentary pulled in only 5.6 million viewers.
