New Security Changes For IU Athletic Home Events

Everyone will be allowed one small clutch bag and one clear plastic bag that meets the same requirements.

BLOOMINGTON, IN – (RTV6) Fans will notice new security changes during IU home games this season.

IU Athletics will implement a new clear bag and metal detector policy for all home games at Memorial Stadium and Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Fans will get a chance to receive a free bag at the IU v. Ohio State game on Aug. 31.

The bag policy will require all items fans wish to bring into the venue to fit in either a clear plastic bag that does not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”, a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag or a small clutch bag with or without a handle/strap that does not exceed 4.5” x 6.5”.

Each person will be allowed one small clutch bag and one clear plastic bag that meets the same requirements.

Free bags will be passed out in parking lots 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 shortly before the Aug. 31 game.

School officials are also recommending attendees arrive early as large crowds are expected for the Ohio State game. To prepare, additional ticket scanners and more staff will be available.

IU Athletics said the changes are not a response to any specific threats, but were the recommendation of a nationally recognized security firm.

The school is the 10th Big Ten institution to adopt a clear bag policy.
