Notre Dame Reaches Tentative Deal To Host 2019 NHL Winter Classic

The NHL regular season hockey game played outside every year would be played at Notre Dame Stadium on New Year's Day

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame Stadium is said to be the host of the NHL's Outdoor Winter Classic featuring the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins on New Year's Day in 2019.

Several news outlets say the Notre Dame Athletic Department has reached a deal with the NHL but nothing is set in stone. If an official agreement is reached a formal announcement is expect to come next month.

If all falls into place, this would be the second time ever an NHL Winter Classic will be played at a college football stadium, the last being at the Big House in Ann Arbor on the University of Michigan campus between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2014.

The Winter Classic became an outdoor annual tradition for the NHL in 2008, when the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres met at New Era Field in Buffalo, which normally is home to the NFL's Buffalo Bills' home games.
