One-Handed Linebacker Star Of Indy's NFL Combine

NFL prospect Shaquem Griffin was four years old when doctors amputated his left hand as the result of a birth defect known as amniotic band syndrome.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Of all the NFL prospects who have been in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, Shaquem Griffin may have gotten the most attention.

Griffin, from the University of Central Florida, was the fastest linebacker to run a 40-yard dash.  In fact, he is the fastest linebacker to have run it in more than ten years.

The amazing thing about Griffin's talents as a college football linebacker is that he only has one hand.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Griffin was four years old when doctors amputated his left hand as the result of a birth defect known as amniotic band syndrome.

Shaquem overcame the loss of his hand by working to become a football player just like his twin brother Shaquill.  Both were on the UCF football team and Shaquem was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.

While at the NFL Scouting Combine, Griffin also did 20 reps with a 225-pound bench press using a prosthetic device attached to the weight bar.

Griffin told reporters he's not just limited to playing linebacker.

"Whatever you need help at, I can play it.  [If] you want me to play kicker or punter, all I got to do is get a good stretch in and wear my foot up.  I can kick the ball too," says Griffin.
