Vince McMahon Announces The XFL Will Return In 2020

McMahon they will be taking two years to "get it right." Adds the new XFl will give "fans what they want."

STAMFORD, CT --  The XFL is coming back in 2020.

WWE CEO Vince McMahon announced the league's return today, saying he's always wanted to bring it back after the original league failed in 2001.  He wants to focus to be on the game of football, and thinks it's important to make the "quality of the play," prominent.

"We're going to give the game of football back to fans," McMahon said in a press conference Thursday. "We have a lot of question for you, and we are going to listen."

McMahon also says there will be no crossover between WWE and the new XFL because they're separate companies.  He's promising to hire experienced executives to run the league, and hopes to stay in the background.

"We will present a shorter, faster-paced, family-friendly and easier-to-understand game. Don't get me wrong, it's still football but it's professional football reimagined."

The announcement was enough to draw the interest from former Colts punter Pat McAfee on Twitter this morning.

McMahon says the plan to put teams in markets where football teams already are, but didn't speculate on where teams would be. He is also promising the new XFL will be extremely family friendly, adding the league would only accept players who were quality human beings, and people who had a DUI wouldn't be allowed. He gave this answer when asked about players like Johnny Manziel, Tim Tebow, and Colin Kaepernick.

The first XFL lasted only a season, and was a joint venture between WWE and NBC.
