NWS: Rain Likely Across Indiana Through Thursday
STATEWIDE–The western third of Indiana is under a marginal risk for severe weather beginning Tuesday night, says the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
“The best chance for severe weather is this evening and into the overnight hours. There will be a squall line coming out of Illinois and it will be moving into western Indiana late tonight,” says National Weather Service in Indianapolis Meteorologist Joe Skowronek.
Skowronek says the storms are supposed to move into the western third of the state by late Tuesday.
“(This will impact) cities like Lafayette, Terre Haute, Vincennes, those areas. The farther east you go, the chances decrease. The main threat will be damaging winds. We could see winds up to 60 mph. There’s also a smaller threat for an isolated tornado and large hail,” says Skowronek.
A marginal risk is the lowest designation. Storms under a marginal risk are typically limited in duration, coverage, and intensity. Rain will continue to fall across much of the state over the next couple of days.
“It will be a slow-moving system, so it will probably still be raining by Thursday. Towards the weekend, it will warm up after this. We’re expecting highs in the 70s by the weekend,” says Skowronek.
