The Stakes Are High for The Old Oaken Bucket Game

Bragging rights and bowl eligibility are on the line in Saturday annual classic between Indiana and Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Not only are bragging rights at stake in Saturday's Old Oaken Bucket Game between the Indiana Hoosiers and the Purdue Boilermakers, so is bowl eligibility. Both teams are 5-6 and on the season and need that sixth win in order to punch their ticket to a bowl game.

It also pits two head coaches against each other for the first time in their careers as both Indiana head coach Tom Allen and Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm look to close out their first regular season at both schools on a high note.

"Not every place has this kind of rivalry game," says Allen. "We full understand the magnitude of the game and we know what is at stake for both sides."

The Hoosiers were victorious last year beating the Boilers 26-24 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. This year the game is at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, something that will play well in the Boilermaker's advantage says Jeff Brohm.

"We need to finish the season the right way. I know that's what our seniors want to do," Brohm continued. "It's be a great atmosphere. The fans have been great to this point and they've been loud when they're there and they've helped be the twelfth man to spur us to success."

Both teams are coming off key wins to get them to this point. The Boilers knocked off the Iowa Hawkeyes on the road 24-15 last Saturday. The Hoosiers blitzed Rutgers 41-0, a team that Purdue lost to earlier in the season 14-12.

Kickoff is a Noon tomorrow in West Lafayette and you can catch all the action as it happened on FM 107.5 and 1070 The Fan or on the Big Ten Network.
